Google Chrome to block Websites with abusive notifications – Google Chrome has planned to punish “abusive” websites that use push notifications for ads, malware or deceptive purposes. Google now promises to take action against such attempts on its Chrome browser.
Our web browser experience is often marred by annoying ads and notifications through the browser we use. Though many times these notifications help users receive important updates, these can also be used for unfair practices, said Sundar Pichai Google Alphabet Reuters
Google has updated in this regard in their blogpost and explains its new efforts to be against “abusive patterns” which are “used to mislead users, phish for private information or promote malware.”
Google Chrome updated version 80.0 will show, under certain conditions, a new “quieter notification permission UI” that seeks to reduce the interruption of notification permission requests for users. In mobile version of Chrome, a subtle bar will be shown at the bottom of the screen.
Chrome will automatically enroll users in the quieter UI in two circumstances:
- Users who repeatedly deny notifications across different sites will be automatically enrolled in the quieter notifications UI
- Sites with very low acceptance rates will be automatically enrolled in quieter prompts, and visitors landing on the sites will see the quieter notifications UI
